About KTH Railway Group

The vision is to reach the entire railway industry to support the development of rail transport systems in Sweden. Guided transport, which includes railways, metros and trams, is built on three pillars: traffic, vehicles and infrastructure.

Rail transport (rail, metro, trams or other guided systems) is built on three pillars that together enable functioning train operations. Coordination and knowledge (Human Resources) are necessary for the systems to function.

The purpose of the railway group is to contribute to the development and increased capacity of railways, metros, trams and other guided systems, with the goal of creating sustainable transport of people and goods. The group serves as a platform for collaboration between the rail transport industry, relevant authorities and KTH's various departments. This promotes education, research and development of track transport systems that can compete on an international level.

What we are good at

The strength of the railway group is that we can carry out small projects as well as large research programmes in collaboration with our partners in the rail transport industry, which not only cover technical aspects of the vehicle and track system but also operational and transport issues in the perspectives of passengers and freight customers. All these projects aim to make rail transport more efficient and increase the capacity and attractiveness of rail compared to other means of transport. We want to continue to provide opportunities for networking, expert support and competence building in the rail transport industry.
